Biography

Liu Zi Ming

   

 

 

 

Born in 1927 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, she studied painting at Mosher Studio in Paris and Paris higher Institute of Fine Arts in 1949-1956. Her first solo show was held at Paris Art Gallery. She is now member of Chinese Artists’ Association and standing councillor of Yunnan Artists’ Association. 

In 1957 her painting “Still Life” won a prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture at All-China Youth Art Exhibition. In 1958 the “Blue Silk Flower” took part in the International Women Art Works Exhibition held by Japanese Women Artists’ Association in Tokyo, Japan, and the “Flowers in the Vase” was shown at Moscow Art Exhibition held in the Soviet Union. In 1959 the “Gladiola” was chosen into the National Art Exhibition for the 10th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. In 1960 the “Cultural Palace of the Nationalities” and “Pompon and Safflower” were selected into the Beijing Painting Exhibition for Observing the 50th Anniversary of International Women’s Day. In 1980 the “Cactus” was selected to be shown at the National Art Works Exhibition. In 1981, 14 of her works took part in the Art Exhibition of Yunnan Ten Painters held in Beijing, in which China Art Gallery collected the painting “Winter Jasmine”. In 1984 the “Bamboo Building” was on show at the Sixth National Art Exhibition. 

Many of her works have been published in publications at home and abroad, for instance, “Blue Silk Flowers” was carried in Selected Painting Works of Chinese Women, “Winter Jasmine”, “Scenery of Dali”, “Bamboo Builing” and “Golden Persimmon”, in Fine Art (Beijing, respectively in 1980, 1981, 1983 and 1985), “Yulan Magnolia of Cinnabar” and “After the Country Fair”, in Literature of China (English Edition), “Portable Creel”, in Art Collection (Shanghai, No.24), “Loquat”, in Culture of Nationalities (Kunming,1983), and “Santa Village” and “Country Fair”, in Paintings of New China (New York, USA, 1987).
