Born in 1905, a native of Jiangyin County, Jiangsu
Province, he studied in 1926 at the Southeast University in Nanjing (the
later Central University), and in 1927 he went to France and studied at
first in Lyon Arts School and then studied in Paris Higher Arts School. As
result of his excellent studies, he was later admitted into Rolliyon Oil
Painting Institute with Laurons as his tutor. In 1932 he returned from
France and served as dean of the Art Department of the Central University.
After the founding of New China, he held the posts of dean of the Art
Department of the Northwest Teachers’ College, and dean and professor of
the Art Department of Nanjing Teachers’ College. He was also
successively member of Chinese Artists’ Association, vice-chairman of
Shaanxi Artists’ Association and vice-chairman of Jiangsu Artists’
Association.
In 1961 he held his solo show in Shanghai. His works
of art were many times exhibited at home and in Paris and Moscow. He had
“Selected Works of Painting of Lu Si Bai” to have been published. Most
of his posthumous art works are in collection of Nanjing Arts College. |
