He was born in 1927, a native of Sheng County,
Zhejiang Province. His another name is Lu Yan and Hai Li. In 1952 he
graduated from the Painting Department of the East China Branch of the
Central Academy of Fine Arts (the original National Art Institute, and the
present Zhejiang Institute of Fine Arts). In the same year he was assigned
to work at the Oil Painting Department. He has successively held the posts
of assistant, lecturer, associate professor, deputy head of the
department, full professor and others. For long years he has been engaged
in teaching and creation of oil painting, being expert in oil painting,
sketch and picture-story book. Now he is member of Zhejiang Research
Society of Oil Paining, honorary councilor of Sun Yat-sen Painting and
Calligraphy Studio and member of the Chinese Artists¡¦ Association. His
oil painting ¡§Miner¡¨ was chosen in ¡§Selections of Oil Painting and
Watercolor¡¨ at the All-China Second Fine Art Works Exhibition (in 1955),
and the same painting was chosen in ¡§Selected Works of New Oil
Painting¡¨ (in 1957). The picture-story book ¡§The Blessing¡¨ was
selected to take part in China Excellent Art Works Exhibition of the
Thirties in Beijing. His writings ¡§How to Draw Sketch¡¨ and
¡§Essentials on Sketch from Plaster Figures¡¨ were respectively
published by Shanghai Art Publishing House in 1958 and Zhejiang Art
Publishing House in 1986, with several impressions. Over 50 works of his
oil paintings such as ¡§Small Street¡¨ (1960), ¡§Human Body¡¨ (1986),
¡§Early April¡¨ (1986), ¡§View of Ruili¡¨ (1988), ¡§Pagoda
Mountain¡¨ (1991) and others were published and exhibited at home and
abroad. The painting ¡§Golden Autumn on Tianmu Mount¡¨ participated in
China First Contest of Choice Works of Oil Painting in 1990 and was
awarded an honorary certificate. |
