Born in 1954 in Shanghai, he graduated as a postgraduate student from the
Oil Painting Department of Zhejiang Institute of Fine Arts. In 1984 he
engaged in advanced studies in the National Higher Arts Institute of Paris
in France. He is now working as associate professor at the Oil Painting
Department of Zhejiang Institute of Fine Arts. He is also member of
Chinese Artists’ Association and member of Zhejiang Oil Painting
Research Society.
He is an oil painter without too many works, but he is one who is very
serious in painting. He always gives much thought to each of his painting.
He needs his every peace of painting to have a fresh idea. Once he thinks
he has no something new to express, he will choose another theme, but not
only for pursuing the amount of painting.
His oil painting “Opening up the Road of Happiness” was shown at the
Second All-China Youth Art Exhibition and won the Second prize, and
collected by China Art Gallery as well. The “War Correspondent” was
awarded the prize for excellent work at the Sixth National Art Works
Exhibition, and was respectively on display in Paris and Lyons of France,
as well as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. In 1989 the
“Portrait-painting of Displacement” was on display in the Art Works
Exhibition of Chinese Oil Painters held at Haffner Art Gallery of Chicago,
and in the next year the same painting was shown at the First
International Art Gallery Invitation Show of Chicago. In 1991 the “Young
Girl—the
Second of My Dream Series” and “Young People—the Third of My Dream Series” were exhibited at the
Second International Art Gallery Invitation Show of Chicago. The
“Re-creation—the
First of Sculpture Studio Series” was auctioned off successfully at
Christie Auctioneer’s. In 1992 the “Portrait-painting of
Displacement” was auctioned off again at Christie Auctioneer’s. In1993
the “Human —
the Fourth of My Dream Series” won the excellent
prize at China Oil Painting Show, and in the same year he himself was
awarded the government allowance granted by the State Council for experts
with outstanding contributions. In 1994 the “Small Town” was rewarded
at an oil painting show held by the National Educational Committee.
